PENGUINS OPEN TRAINING CAMP THIS TUESDAY

groupWILKES-BARRE, PA –  The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins will open training camp on Tuesday, September 23, with the first practice slated for 10:00am at the Ice Box in Pittston.

Players will report to Wilkes-Barre on Monday, September 22 for team meetings and physicals.  All practices, aside from the Tuesday, September 23 on-ice practices, will take place at the Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza.  A tentative schedule for the two week training camp follows.

The Penguins also announced their current training camp roster, which features 30 players (16 forwards, 12 defensemen and two goaltenders) as of Friday, September 19.

The Penguins first preseason game takes place on Friday, September 26 in Binghamton against the Senators, with a return game on Saturday, September 27 in Wilkes-Barre.  The Pens’ regular season gets underway on Wednesday, October 8 at home against the Hershey Bears.

All practices at the Ice Box are open to the public, while practices at Wachovia Arena are open to accredited media members only.

 

PITTSBURGH REDUCES ROSTER

The Pittsburgh Penguins have reduced their training camp roster to 42 players, it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Six players have been assigned to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins.  The six players include forwards Luca Caputi, Joe Haddad, Dustin Jeffrey, Nick Johnson and Mark Letestu along with defenseman Jonathan D’Aversa.

The Penguins have re-assigned Alex Grant and Keven Veilleux to the St. John’s Sea Dogs and Rimouski Oceanic, their respective clubs of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and Casey Pierro-Zabotel to Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL).

The Penguins have 24 forwards, 14 defensemen and four goaltenders, for a total of 42 players remaining at training camp.  The updated roster is attached.
