PENGUINS DOWN SENATORS AT KITCHENER TOURNAMENT

groupKITCHENER, ONTARIO - The Penguins got goals from Jason Legault, Casey Pierro-Zabotel and Dustin Jeffrey to record a 3-1 win Monday against the Ottawa Senators at the 2008 Kitchener Rookie Tournament. The Penguins finished with a 2-1-0 record in the competition.

The first 29 minutes of play were mostly quiet, with only four minor penalties and a second period fight between Corey Cowick and Ottawa's Tomas Kudelka bringing the sparse crowd alive.

Legault, a free agent invitee from Val d'Or of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, finally cracked the scoreboard at 9:23 of the second with a one-timer from the right circle. The feed from Tim Wallace beat netminder Brian Elliot low on the glove side.

Pierro-Zabotel picked up his second goal in as many games during a scrum in front of the net with 25 seconds left in the middle frame to give the Penguins a 2-0 lead.

Jim O'Brien pulled the Sens within one with a power play goal early in the third period, but Dustin Jeffrey struck back 24 seconds later for his second goal of the tournament, padding the Pens' lead to two goals once again.

Patrick Killeen, the Penguins' sixth round choice from the Brampton Battalion this past June, made 25 saves to record the victory.
