PENGUINS FALL TO PANTHERS AT ROOKIE TOURNAMENT

KITCHENER, ONTARIO - Three second period goals proved to be the Penguins undoing, as the Florida Panthers posted a 5-2 victory in Sunday night's contest at the Kitchener Rookie Tournament. The loss dropped the Pens' record to 1-1-0 in the three day, round-robin tournament. The Penguins final contest takes place Monday afternoon against the Ottawa Senators.

Pittsburgh took leads of 1-0 and 2-1, but couldn't hold on as the Panthers posted four unanswered goals to record their first win of the tournament.

Casey Pierro-Zabotel notched the only goal of the opening frame, with assists going to Jean-Michel Dauost and Keven Veilleux. That score came at the 15:32 mark.

Florida's Michal Repik evened the score with a power play tally 47 seconds into the second period, and the game remained tied until Dustin Jeffrey picked up a loose puck off a rebound and poked home his first tally in two games at the 12:37 mark.

The Panthers pounced from there, as Kenndal McArdle tallied a shorthanded goal less than two minutes later to make the score 2-2, and David Brine gave Florida the lead two minutes before the intermission.

Mike Duco and Michael Frolik netted third period goals to cap the scoring.

Aaron Boogaard continued to show a physical presence at the tournament, dropping the gloves twice on the afternoon.

Dave Brown stopped 23 shots in defeat for the Penguins.
