PENGUINS PROSPECTS DOWN TORONTO, 5-2

groupKITCHENER, ONTARIO - Mark Letestu led the offesnive attack with four points (1+3), Jean-Michel Daoust had a goal and two assists,and Ben Lovejoy notched a power play goal as the Pittsburgh Penguins prospects posted a 5-2 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs at the 2008 Rookie Tournament on Saturday night at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorum.

The Penguins jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and never looked back.

Daoust opened the scoring at 3:31 of the first period, chipping away at a loose puck in front of Maple Leafs netminder James Reimer.

Ben Lovejoy came down the right wing two minutes later, sneaking in on the power play and re-directing a Letestu pass at the far post.

Eric Wellwood beat John Curry on a breakaway late in the first period to give Toronto its first goal of the night.

Jon D’Aversa extended the lead to 3-1 eight minutes into the second period, and Joey Haddad picked up the fourth Pittsburgh tally at 11:56 of the middle frame.

Kyle Rogers beat Curry from the slot 20 seconds into the third period to cut the lead to two goals, but Letestu struck back three minutes later with his fourth point of the evening – the game’s final score.

Aaron Boogaard brought some life to the building in the waning minutes as he dropped the gloves and scored a lopsided decision against Joe Cooper.

Alex Grant didn’t fare so well with time running down, taking a solid pop to the nose from Kyle Rogers with 3.3 seconds remaining.

Curry stopped 20 shots to pick up the win.
