PENGUINS ACQUIRE RICHMOND FROM CHICAGO

Send Tim Brent To Blackhawks

groupWILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired the rights to defenseman Danny Richmond from the Chicago Blackhawks for the rights to center Tim Brent, it was announced on Thursday by Assistant General MAnager Chuck Fletcher.

Richmond, 23, split last season between the Blackhawks and Rockford IceHogs (AHL).  He was scoreless in seven games with Chicago, and recorded 14 points (2+12) and 156 penalty minutes in 40 games with Rockford. 

The 6-0, 195 pound native of Chicago has appeared in 49 NHL games with the Blackhawks and Carolina Hurricanes, recording three assists and 75 penalty minutes.  He has also recorded 88 points (24+64) and 541 penalty minutes in 223 AHL games with Rockford, Norfolk and Lowell.

Richmond was drafted in the second round (31st overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft by Carolina.

Brent, 24, led Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 61 points (18+43) in 74 games last season.  He also tied for the AHL lead with 12 goals during the Calder Cup Playoffs, and finished third in league playoff scoring with 27 points. 

The native of Cambridge, Ontario, has appeared in 16 NHL games with Pittsburgh and Anaheim, recording one goal and six penalty minutes.  He was acquired by Pittsburgh from Anaheim for Stephen Dixon on June 23, 2007.
