PITTSBURGH PENGUINS SIGN JOEY MORMINA

groupWILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Joey Mormina, it was announced on Wednesday by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Mormina, 26, spent last season with the Albany River Rats, recording 13 points (4+9) and 96 penalty minutes in 77 games with the AHL club.  He also made his NHL debut with the Carolina Hurricanes, going scoreless in one contest.

A former sixth round choice (193rd overall) by the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft, Mormina has combined to record 37 points (6+31) in 200 AHL games with the River Rats and Manchester Monarchs. 

Before turning pro, the Montreal native spent four seasons at Colgate University (ECAC Hockey), where he recorded 56 points (16+40) in 141 games for the Raiders.
