ENGELLAND INKED TO CONTRACT EXTENSION
WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Pittsburgh Penguins have signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a two-year contract extension, it was announced Monday by General Manager Ray Shero.
Engelland, 25, has recorded eight points (1+7) and 106 penalty minutes in 49 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton this season. He is one of only two Penguins players to appear in every game this season. Engelland was originally signed by Pittsburgh as a free agent on July 16, 2007.
Originally selected in the New Jersey Devils in the sixth round (194th overall) of the 2000 NHL Draft , Engelland suited up for 156 AHL regular season games with the Lowell Lock Monsters, Hershey Bears and Penguins during parts of four seasons, recording 22 points (5+17) and 312 penalty minutes.
The 6-2, 202 pound blueliner from Edmonton has also appeared in 142 games with the Las Vegas Wranglers, South Carolina Stingrays and Reading Royals of the ECHL, recording 53 points (10+43) and 229 penalty minutes.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns to action this Wednesday night, when the Penguins face-off with the Norfolk Admirals at the Scope Arena. Game time is 7:15pm.
The Penguins return home to face the Philadelphia Phantoms this Friday nigh, February 15, at 7:05pm.
