PITTSBURGH RECALLS LUCA CAPUTI

The Pittsburgh Penguins have recalled forward Luca Caputi from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Caputi, 20, has appeared in 46 contests with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, ranking fourth with 35 points (13 goals and 22 assists) along with 35 penalty minutes.  He ranks second on the team with 22 assists while posting a plus-one rating.  Caputi joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton last season just prior to the start of the AHL Calder Cup playoffs.  He contributed eight points (four goals, four assists) in 19 post-season contests with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

Prior to joining the Penguins last season, the 6-3, 185-pound forward recorded 111 points (51 goals, 60 assists) in 66 games with the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).  Caputi ranked third overall in the OHL with 51 goals and fourth in scoring with 111 points.  He also played 10 playoff games scoring 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) before his club was eliminated in the second round of the OHL playoffs. 

The native of Toronto , Ontario played four seasons in the OHL, spending three seasons with the Mississauga IceDogs and last season with the Niagara IceDogs.  Caputi appeared in 214 games in the OHL, registering 185 points (86 goals, 99 assists).  He was originally selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (111th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

 

PITTSBURGH RE-ASSIGNS PAUL BISSONNETTE TO WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PENGUINS

The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-assigned forward Paul Bissonnette to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the American Hockey League (AHL), it was announced today by Executive Vice President and General Manager Ray Shero.

Bissonnette, 23, played seven games with Pittsburgh during his fourth stint with the team.  He has played a total of 15 games with the Penguins this season, registering one assist while posting 22 penalty minutes.  Bissonnette began the season with Pittsburgh and has recorded a plus or even rating in 13 of his 15 appearances.  He made his NHL debut on Oct. 4 against Ottawa at the NHL Premiere in Stockholm , Sweden .  Bissonnette leads Wilkes-Barre/Scranton with 108 penalty minutes, while recording six points (three goals, three assists) in 25 games this season.

The 6-2, 211-pound forward split the 2007-08 season between the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins and the Wheeling Nailers of the ECHL.  Bissonnette tallied eight points (three goals, five assists) along with 146 penalty minutes in 46 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.  He also recorded 11 penalty minutes in seven playoff contests with the Penguins.  Bissonnette collected 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) and 43 penalty minutes with Wheeling before being re-called to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.  Bissonnette was drafted by the Penguins in the fourth round (121st overall) of the 2003 NHL Draft.
